A technique I frequently use is leaving out an important piece of information until the last panel to give it special impact or allow it to contribute to the punchline. I like how it works here. You can tell that Stu is in motion, but you don't really know what's going on until panel five. Astute readers may have figured it out by panel four, since we know Mike and Stu got on a bus.
I mentioned in my commentary on the last page of Volume 1 that I was tempted to take a break, but dove right in to the second volume. I did make it easy on myself by making the first page of Volume 2 relatively simple. Stu is a straightforward design, and even the last panel wasn't that bad. Although, I have distinct memories of relying on numerous bus photo references. There isn't much I draw without a photo reference; even today, I'm not a good enough artist to draw a lot from memory (yet). Actually, as I write this, I am fairly rusty, so I need photo reference even more than usual at the moment.
