Jeff's history may be a bit too exagerrated here. I feel as though 18 years is a LONG time to be at a job and not even get a raise. Even if Jeff feels trapped in this job for some psychological or socio-economic (or supernatural?) reason, I feel like he would have left by now. But hey, what do I know?
Writing for Mike was difficult. He's uncertain and battered and broken by Bob, but at the same time, he's gaining some confidence in himself, especially as he continues to escape harrowing circumstances. Despite everything, his resolve is growing. He's reaching a breaking point. He's beginning to understand that he has value as a human being, which is a really important realization. Believably building Mike to the point where he does finally break is what was challenging. It's not an overnight process, so pacing had to be considered.
