Confessions By Incarceration
Original Release Date: March 20, 2012
I like the high contrast on this page, too, and I like how Mike and Renee's eyes are lit up in a dark room, a common artistic approach seen in comics and cartoons. It's obviously not realistic, but I think it fits in this universe, where not much is realistic or to be taken seriously.
Mike does a couple of subtle things on this page that fit his character well. His line in panel four about his gene powering "some chaos machine that will destroy the world" is delivered so calmly and matter-of-factly, if it wasn't for his facial expression, you wouldn't even be able to tell anything was wrong. He's so used to this stuff happening to him at this point that it's no big deal.
The other thing is his expression on the last panel when Renee admits she wasn't telling the truth. It reads a little like stern disappointment in Renee, but it also carries a weight of defeat and expectancy, as if he's wondering what else is going to go wrong in the next five minutes.
