Ninja Versus Hypergoon Elite, Round 2
Original Release Date: January 29, 2013
Sword Goon's statement about his arm refers to the first fight with the Hypergoon Elite, in which Evil Bad Guy Ninja cut his arm off and would have killed him had Stu not intervened. He now has this droid arm, which doesn't look as imposing as I had hoped.
There are two things I don't like about this page, and they are common problems with fight scenes. First, in panel two, Stu and Evil Bad Guy Ninja suddenly have time to stand stiffly and talk strategy and take a potshot at Grant (the telekinetic guy), when they were just nose to nose with Sword Goon and Sledgehammer Goon in the last panel. Where did they go? Why are they letting this chatter happen?
The other problem is Grant. He's not developed enough. He should be able to wreak havoc on this fight, causing lots of trouble for both the ninja and Mike, Renee, and Ohtani. It's complicated to fit a guy like that into a fight, and I didn't take the time to do it properly. He wasn't in on the first fight enough, either. He is limited to a support role, but he's capable of so much more. He could be hurling big pieces of machinery at them and force-pushing them and so forth.
The page, however, is somewhat redeemed by Headless Briggs and his ridiculous combat banter. This guy knows how to talk during a fight! I really like Briggs. He's easily the best Hypergoon.
