Okay, so yes, I will admit that I used a considerable shortcut when producing artwork for this page. The same frame is repeated an unprecedented five times. But, I'd like to believe that the sight gag is worth it. For the first-time reader, it appears as if Mike and Renee are hiding inside the trash cans as part of some elaborate plot to infiltrate the big charity ball. It isn't until the end that you find out they're just sitting behind the cans, and that they're only there because Mike is sitting on the curb trying to tie his shoe. Reading this page for me is weird because I knew from the beginning they weren't in the cans, so the joke is lost on me, but I think readers liked it quite a bit. In fact, I featured it as a sample comic on the Mike and the Ninja flyer I handed out at comic cons until this year, when I finally designed a new flyer.
